What Craft & Commerce (re)Taught Me About Entrepreneurship
Last week reminded me why I started my Momentum Weekend Workshop for creators in the first place.
I just got back from Craft & Commerce, an incredible in-person event hosted by the team at Kit, the email platform I use and love. It reignited something in me. A deeper clarity. A sense of purpose. A reminder that real momentum for creators doesn’t come from algorithms or hacks – it comes from connection, action, and community.
I walked away from the event with new ideas and a fresh perspective on my business.
Here are 5 lessons I learned (and re-learned) that I think every entrepreneur and creator needs to hear:
1. We can’t do this alone
Success doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s about the people you surround yourself with… those who challenge you, cheer you on, and walk beside you when the path gets tough. (This is why I started Momentum!)
2. Relationships matter more than reach
We are all in the relationship business. Your next opportunity won’t come from an algorithm… it’ll come from a conversation. Serve first. Give generously with no expectation of anything in return. Do it because it’s the right thing to do.
3. Experiment your way forward
Stop waiting (or making excuses). There’s no perfect plan. There’s just action. Test. Try. Learn. Iterate. The only way to figure it out is to just start, continue learning, and keep going.
4. In-person events are transformational
Something happens when you show up, face-to-face. Walls come down. Ideas spark. Real magic begins. Online is great… but this is where real momentum is born.
5. Surround yourself with the right people
…the ones who remind you of who you are, and who you want to become. This weekend was full of those people. The kind who are smart, generous, curious, kind, brave, and bold. The kind who lift you up, challenge you, and make you feel like you truly belong. The kind who remind you why your work matters… and that you matter, too.
This wasn’t just another conference – it was a much-needed reminder of why we do what we do… and who we do it for.
If you’ve felt disconnected, stuck, or just in need of a reset…find your people. Be in the room. Invest in real relationships.
That’s where the momentum starts.
